February 19th and 20th February.
GUYRA Show Society which will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 19 and 20, is definitely worthwhile telling your friends about and rolling up to join in the fun.
A special highlight for this year’s Show will be the attendance of the Governor General of Australia, General Sir Peter Cosgrove, who will officially open the Show on Friday evening at 7.30pm
This year Guyra will be hosting the Angus Cattle Feature Show and we are expecting a large number of entries this year.
This year’s entertainment is a family-friendly program headlined which includes tent-pegging and horse-ball competitions, as well as whip cracking demonstrations, a potentially hilarious wife-carrying competition, and a skill-at-arms demonstration. On Saturday, the post-ripping will be held, a potato-pick-em competition for the kids, Fireworks and the conclusion with the Demolition Derby on Saturday night.
The carnival aspect of the show is not to be forgotten, with the Showmen’s Guild being strong supporters of the Guyra Show - they’ve got a great line up of rides and amusements
Trade exhibits are very strong with local exhibitors on display, as well as others from Inverell, Armidale, Dorrigo, Byron Bay and as far afield as Queensland
Commemorating 100 years
Since The Men & Women from the Guyra District joined the
33rd Battalion AIF (“New England’s Own”) And other Battalions in
World War I
To commemorate 100 years since the start of World War One, we asked the member of the Guyra Community to knitted or crochet poppy for the Guyra Show Society.
They didn’t let us down, when we counted the poppies we have over 600 beautiful poppies in all shades of red. They did a fantastic job! Many Many Thanks to all
These poppies will be displayed and be the feature of our World War I display in the Pavilion during the show.
